Christian Prayers for Peace

Blessed are the Peacemakers,
for they shall be known as the Children of God.
But I say to you that hear, love your enemies,
do good to those who hate you,
bless those who curse you,
pray for those who abuse you.
To those who strike you on the cheek, offer the other also,
and from those who take away your cloak,
do not withhold your coat as well.
Give to everyone who begs from you,
and of those who take away your goods, do not ask them again.
And as you wish that others would do to you, do so to them.

Prayer of St. Francis

Lord, make me an instrument of Thy peace;
where there is hatred, let me sow love;
where there is injury, pardon;
where there is doubt, faith;
where there is despair, hope;
where there is darkness, light;
and where there is sadness, joy.
O Divine Master,
grant that I may not so much seek to be consoled as to console;
to be understood, as to understand;
to be loved, as to love;
for it is in giving that we receive,
it is in pardoning that we are pardoned,
and it is in dying that we are born to Eternal Life.
Amen.

Dear God,

May all the changes that would shift
this world
away from sorrow and into peace
away from violence
and into love
away from darkness and into light
now happen.

Now, not later,
now.

May a great and glorious light
emerge
and show us all
the way.
May our eyes look up at an illumination sky
and see a sign
that mean
have hope
and pray,
for the Lord has found His way to you.

Now, not later,
now.

May every tear be wiped away
and every heart begin to gladden
and every life be healed by love.

Now, not later,
now.

We pray
and say thanks,
for we are heard.
he hears us.

Now, not later,
now.

Amen

Dear God,

May there come
over the earth
a great and glorious
light.

May we remember Heaven.

May all who suffer
Feel pain no more.
May sorrow depart,
may disease end,
may war stop,
may doubts cease,
and all hearts
gladden.

May we remember Heaven.

May every child
and every man
and every woman
now, this instant,
feel sure release
from the bondage of their past.

Amen

Radiate Peace

Let us not use bombs and guns to overcome the world. Let us use love and compassion.
Peace begins with a smile.
Smile five times a day at someone you don’t really want to smile at,  at all.
Do it for peace.
Let us radiate the peace of God and so light God’s light, which can extinguish in the world and in the hearts of all people, all hatred, and love for power.

Mother Theresa (paraphrased)

Everlasting Spirit;
Guide the actions of those who govern us.
 Help them to seek peace without war;
Help them to cultivate care, not casualties;
Help them to provide for the needy and nourish the poor.

Help them,
 Great Spirit,
to seek peace without war;
 To renounce the need to conquer;
To release the fear of conquest
and insufficiency.

Help us,
 O Divine Spirit;
to help them
 walk the path of reconciliation,
and pursue universal joy, peace and love.
Amen.

G lory be to God, who taught us what is right!
Lead us from darkness into the light,
 Lead us from sadness into joy.
Lead us to peace; lead us from war.
Lead us to proclaim the sanctity of all life.
Glory to God, who has shown us the light!
Amen
